My Dream

Hi there dear reader, this is my post about my dream.

Jessica Watson was inspired when her mother read her book called ‘Lion Heart’. It was a story about an 18 year old boy called Jesse Martin. He was the youngest person who ever sailed the whole world. Also, she was inspired when a woman called Kay Cottee sailed around the world. She was the first women who sailed around the world unaided.

After all the inspiration her dream became, ‘to be the youngest person to sail around the world unaided and unsupported.’ In the end she accomplished her dream.

My dream is to either establish a very big food company or be a comic book artist. I am going to achieve this by: for making a big food company, I will start a small business and expand gradually. For a comic book artist, I will start drawing little comic strips but then, start making real comic books and get it published.

My inspiration for the food business is that my mum is the manager of Subway Gisborne. For the comic book artist, I believe that I’m a really good drawer, and that it isn’t really hard, you just have to strive to your goal. I really wanted to start a food business because I have always wanted to create food. It is like a piece of art.

I want to be a comic book artist because I really like comic books and the way the pictures can express a whole story. To work toward my dreams, I will have to start out small and over the years, I will grow my career. I will also have to practice cooking with my mum. Probably, I would enter graphic novel competitions to start out small.

I believe that everyone should have a dream to look towards to. I believe this because everyone should have a planned future ahead.

Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore!

Hi there! It’s me again!

Yesterday, we watched a really fantastic short film called: Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. It was a show that had no dialogue! Imagine that! The only way the filmmaker could communicate to us watchers was to use music, expressions, and pictures. (Of course pictures! It’s a movie!)   Anyway, since you didn’t watch it, I will put the movie in words for you. Enjoy.

Mr. Morris Lessmore was writing peacefully in his book with his books, sitting on the veranda, in the middle of a town, in the middle of nowhere. Now, Mr. Morris Lessmore was more of a book worm. He enjoyed a good book. He also enjoyed writing them. Though, he hadn’t really ever written a book, but he was going to. He was already halfway through writing and drawing in the book when dark clouds flooded the sky. Like an army of darkness, it swarmed the blue blocking out the sun. All was still. Until, a little breeze picked up a couple of sheets of paper, and tossed them around like feathers. It wasn’t enough to break Mr. Morris’ concentration. He was focused on writing about his life experiences and drawing a picture of a jack in the box. All was still again, but the wind did not give up. It sent a fury of wind that ripped at the ground, scraping away at objects from the grasp of gravity.  From the heavens above, came down to earth, a tornado of devastation. The whole town was uprooted from the ground into the midst of flight. Mr. Morris was tossed around like a piece of dust in a vacuum cleaner, except, the vacuum cleaner was a deadly tornado. Everything was destroyed in a blur. Very soon the colour was sucked out of the town. That left Mr Morris on the ground with his book filled with blank pages. All the books that he owned were ripped apart and scattered all around the town. Mr Morris Lessmore got up and followed the trail of pages. At the end of the trail Mr Morris met a girl, flying in the sky, carried by flying books. The girl brought colour to the place, but not to the people like Mr Morris. The girl then sent down her book to guide Mr Morris, to the library.

Very soon he engaged a life of taking care of books and adding colour to people’s lives. He then soon got old and was carried away by another set of flying books. He then got back his youth and let his book go down back to the library to start a new beginning.

The message that I found in this short film, was that reading books bring happiness and colour to a person’s heart. I also found out that music can emphasise emotions and feelings.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Climbing Experience brought to you!

The Sydney Harbour Bridge came into full view after a long time of travelling in the taxi. I stuck my head out of the open window to get a good glimpse of the bridge. Joshua, Zak, Nathanael, and I all sat tight in the cab, waiting to be dropped off. Excitement flooded into our hearts, when we won tickets for the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb. Immediately after we won the tickets, we hired a cab and set off to Sydney. It has taken us about 9 hours to get here. The cab jerked to a stop. We all flopped forwards, and back again. Josh opened the door with a sigh of relief. We all hopped outside and stared at the Bridge. Thoughts rushed through my head. We were going to climb that honking Bridge, made out of tons of steel. I then payed up $1407 to the taxi driver! That was a total rip off!
I turned my head to look at my friends, but they were already running towards the administration desk. I started to run but I suddenly stopped. Zak looked at me with a look that said “You’ve got the tickets, haven’t you?” I smirked at them. I walked slowly towards the booth with power in my stride. I proudly handed over the tickets to the person behind the desk. He then passed us suits to put on. We were also given a guide to lead us to the top of the Bridge. He was holding climber belts. We walked all the way to the start of the climb. The tour guide then passed us the climber belts and told us to put them on. He put on his own and attached our latches to the railing.
He started jogging up the stairs ushering us to follow. Nathanael raced up the steps, while the rest of us climbed up slowly. Nathanael had already reached the second floor, but he was panting out of breath. I followed the tour guide who was totally more experienced than any of us at climbing bridges. He was also a way lot older than us, he was, like about 35, and we were 10 years old! He climbed up the stairs efficiently and as fast as an athlete and we scaled as slow as a tortoise. Nathanael was already worn out. We clambered the stairs for what seemed like forever, especially with the suit and the safety belt weighing us down. Most of the time, our tour guide waited for us to catch up with him. After 2 whole hours of taking stairs, strolling cat walks, hiking ladders, wobbling on uneven surfaces, going on narrow paths, being exposed to all kinds of weather conditions, we got to the top!
The view was magnificent from the top. The Australian flag flailing in the wind behind me. Australia’s National icon known worldwide had been conquered, by me, Timothy. From the top we could see the miniature pint-sized cars speeding across the ground. We could see small boats flying on the surface of the harbour, leaving a trail of white water behind them. We could also see the Sydney Opera House! It’s big white, curved roof pointing towards us. The chilled flow of air brushed past my face. Zak then asked the tour guide whether he could spew off the edge. Of course the tour guide said he couldn’t, but he did. I stuck my head over the edge and saw the yellowish, greenish, lumpy, cloudy barf fall down into the glittering water below. I was disgusted by Zak’s actions. Though, we were all sniggering about it on the way home. In the cab, I looked back at the Sydney Harbour Bridge, remembering the truly electrifying experience. This was one day I would not forget!

My Term 3 SMARTS Goals!

Earlier this term, we set some SMARTS goal for our self’s. Before I could set goals I needed to identify what I did well and what I needed to improve on. By setting goals I have something to aim for.

To make the goals we needed to refer to the SWOT analysis sheet (SWOT is actually a acronym. The ‘S’ stands for strengths, the ‘W’ stands for weaknesses, the ‘O’ stands for opportunities, and the ‘T’ stands for threats.) . The sheet helped us to write down our strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The 4 goals were, writing skills, reading skills, mathematics skills, and learning behaviour skills. We found the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and the threats of our goals.

Now that you know how my goals were made, let me share them with you. My Writing goal was to improve on using my past tense and present tense. I chose this goal because I have trouble writing stories with the right tense. I hope to achieve my goal by the end of term 3. I will achieve my goal by reading more stories with the kind of tense that I have trouble with. This will help me because I will get more of an idea of how to write a story with that tense.  To show that I have improved at my goal, I will write a story using that present tense.

My Mathematics goal is to get 80% accuracy or greater, on my New Wave Mentals by the end of Term 3. I have chosen this goal because I am currently achieving an accuracy of 90% on simpler Maths New Wave Mentals. To achieve this goal I will work in clinic groups with Mrs Kane. I will also visit websites on the class blog to improve my skills. I will also identify areas for improvement and practise at home. My scores on Maths New Wave Mentals will be evidence of my achievement.

My Learning Behaviour goal is to share the load of the work evenly, because I always go ahead and leave my group behind, so most of the time I have to catch them up. To achieve this goal I will stick with my group and give roles to each team member so nobody gets left behind. Everyone should be up to date with the group work so no one is left behind, that should be the evidence.

Jeremy’s Adventure!

Hello there dear readers! I am putting this post up about Jeremy Scott. He is just a regular person like all of you. But he took on a challenge, that pushed himself to the limit. He took a challenge of riding a bicycle from England to New Zealand! If you were to look that up on the map, that would be a very long trip. The route he took passed through 29 countries. In total, he cycled 51,917 km! It took him 964 days! That would be 2 years and a half. Plus, he did all this to raise money for the charity! He’s not a super athlete. He even had a heart problem when he was younger, and yet, he did this…

Yesterday, we had Jeremy come to our class room and share his fascinating adventure with us. He brought his trusty bike along too. He talked to us and showed us pictures of his trip. After his presentation. We had a opportunity to ask him some questions. Almost everyone did, but I, kinda chickened out. So I didn’t ask him any questions that I had floating in my mind. When I didn’t get to ask a question, I felt kinda left out as well. But that was the past! Now, we move on to the future!

The 2 intriguing facts  that I caught from Jeremy’s presentation were that in Cambodia, He showed us a picture of a huge plate of food! It had fried rice, zucchini, carrots, egg and sausage, all for $1! That is a very, very, very, cheap meal. That was 1 fact now, the next fact is this: It doesn’t take a super human to traverse the world in a bike. Jeremy, has proven that.

Don’t look away now readers! The was also a message in the presentation of his whole journey. The message that hit me good was that, over time confidence builds, and you won’t be afraid to do something else as amazing as that. This changes my thinking because it makes me think that when I am afraid of something that I have to do, I will gain confidence as I do it.

Is there any correlation between a person’s height and the length of their foot?

Our class carried out an investigation about how long our feet were and whether there was a correlation with our height. We gathered the data on a graph just below this text.

Our team’s graph shows that Joseph and Cameron have the strongest correlation with their height and their length of their feet. I had the lowest correlation because I have feet that are bigger then what my size is. Jess had the fifth best correlation with her feet length to her size. Georgia had the fourth best correlation with her feet length and her height. Laura had the third best correlation with her feet length to her size.

The thing that I have learnt with this investigation is that from my graph, our height has no correlation with the length of our foot. I also learnt that making a graph is a very good way to compare things with each other.

 

Lights! Cameras! Action! Movie review: The Court Jester

For this holiday, I have been asked to write a movie review about the film: The Court Jester. It was filmed in 1955. It was directed by Melvin Frank, and Norman Panama. The fantastic show had a brilliant cast of Danny Kaye as “Hubert Hawkins”, Basil Rathbone as “Sir Ravenhurst”, Mildred Natwick as “Griselda the witch”, Angela Lansbury as “Princess Gwendolyn”, Glynis Johns as “Maid Jean”, Cecil Parker as “King Roderick 1”.

The story is about a group of rebels sheltering the young true heir of England. The rebels hide in the woods always running away from the false king of England and his royal guard. Hubert Hawkins the son of the Back Fox, goes on a quest with Jean to bring order to the kingdom. Their plan gets ushered on when the duo meet the great Giacomo, the king of jesters, and the jester of kings. Their plan is to get the key to the secret passage, and bring the young heir to the other side of the woods. How are they meant to get into the castle? Hubert dresses as the great Giacomo and enters the castle to get the key. But their plans are turned upside down when Giacomo is supposed to be a assassin for sir Ravenhurst and he is under a spell, by the witch Griselda, and Hubert has to get the key. How will he manage it all?

My favourite character is Hubert because he is a very talented man at making poems, rhymes and songs. He also has a funny expression and a humorous personality, and he is really funny.

One quote from the movie that I thought was very clever was this quote, Get it? Got it? Good. I think this because it is a very well know quote from the Court Jester. I also think that is would basically fit into anything you want to say to a person.

I would give this movie a star rating of 8 out of 10. Thank you for reading my movie review.

My Digital Learning Portfolio Presentation Reflection

Hello world!
Last night, I presented a presentation about my digital learning portfolio. This is my reflection of my presentation. The white hat thinking is all about the facts; I will tell you what I learnt for my presentation. I learnt how to write an engaging and entertaining script.
The yellow hat thinking is all about the good points. The good points in my awesome presentation were that I impressed my parents with my work and I was really proud of my achievements. The black hat thinking is all about the negative things and all the things that went wrong. The things that went wrong were that I had to keep looking at my script on my lap, because I hadn’t remembered it.
The red hat thinking is all about the feelings and the emotion. Before the presentation, I felt anxious and nervous that I would mess up when I was presenting. After the presentation, (which seemed like forever) I felt really, really relieved that I had finished my presentation. I also walked out of the door feeling proud. I also felt relaxed after the presentation because I didn’t have the pressure on me anymore. Lastly, the green hat thinking is about the ideas and improvements. The things that I would improve would be that I stop stuttering when I say my script and I would have tried to remember what I was going to say.
